The Group has 1,394 hectares under mature rubber producing over 800 metric tons of high quality rubber. Another 569 hectares of young rubber will come into production on maturity in the next few years. The Group has a central rubber factory at Lungla with gas-based firing facilities for smoking rubber sheets in large volumes.
The finished product is sold locally where there is increasing demand from the growing footwear and tyre industries for natural rubber, and exported to four other rubber growing countries India, China, Vietnam and Malaysia, reflecting demand for the quality of our smoked rubber sheet. Worldwide there has been a shift back from synthetic to natural rubber in various industries. Rubber is already contributing significantly to the Company’s profits and shows promise for the future. Like tea, the Group maintains a leading share of rubber production in Bangladesh.
